A Joyous Honor for Our Beloved Sisters
With hearts overflowing with joy, gratitude, and deep honor, we share the wonderful news that Sister Mary Attilia and Sister Donatella have received Papal Honors from Our Holy Father, Pope Leo XIV, in recognition of their extraordinary dedication to the Church.
As part of the Catholic Diocese of Arlington’s 50th Anniversary Golden Jubilee, our beloved Sisters were chosen among 50 faithful members of the diocese to receive this prestigious recognition. This remarkable honor, the Benemerenti Medal (“To one who is well-deserving”), is awarded by the Pope to members of the clergy and laity whose faithful service has enriched the life of the Church.
We are profoundly grateful for Sister Mary Attilia and Sister Donatella’s tireless ministry — nurturing the faith formation of our children, serving the poor, and inspiring us all through their witness to Christ’s love.
The Papal Honors will be formally conferred in a private ceremony by Bishop Michael F. Burbidge at a later date.
Let us rejoice together in this historic moment, thanking God for the gift of these Sisters among us, and joining our prayers with those of the universal Church in celebration of their well-deserved recognition.
Congratulations, dear Sisters! We are blessed beyond measure by your presence and service.
